Build a Thriving Business by Creating long term systems

Every day thousands of people want to start their own businesses either online or brick and motor.

But in the book “The E-Myth Revisited” by Michael Gerber, it spells out golden goals to take home before you get started with your business.

The premise of the book is that most small businesses get started and are run by either a Technician, an Entrepreneur, or a Manager.

And according to Gerber, the #1 reason most small businesses don’t succeed long-term is that they are started by a “Technician”.

A Technicians Vs an Entrepreneur

A “Technician” is someone who knows how to do the technical work involved in a job, without much thought to the two other equally important roles described in the book, the “Entrepreneur” and the “Manager”.

Now a technician, in this case, means someone who is an expert in their particular field.

Write out all the different roles in your company

Michael lays out the importance of making sure, no matter how big or small your business is, that you write out all the different roles needed for the success of your company and you then create long-term systems to support each role.

He states that if the business is to thrive, it must move beyond the founder. A business wholly dependent on the founder and their abilities is not really a business, but rather a very burdensome job for the founder.

Every time you are out sick or take a vacation or are otherwise absent, the business stops too.

Create the right system

It’s so easy at the beginning of a business to hire people and just relegate all the areas you perceive as “not your thing” versus identifying upfront all the needed roles and building a plan where you, as the CEO of your business, strategically create the right systems and train people into those positions.
